this is my first gps really impressed easy to use, accurate and so far seems to have getting no problem geeting a signal under trees and even in my home. i would recomend this gps to any one.

Unfamiliar with the world of GPS I purchased this out if interest rather than need. It is a fascinating gadget which does what it says on the tin – but not a substitute for a map and compass. This model is not suitable for the pursuit of geo-caching.

There is a brief instruction book and CD which comes as part of the package. Being used to massive manuals that seem to come as part of the package I was disappointed at the brevity of information supplied. It helps you to find your way around the device, but you are still left wondering what some of it means as this is not made clear, even on the CD.

This basic GPS is very useful for logging walks.

It can give you data on your walk (speeds, length, walk and stopping time) and also record a complete route with way-points for future re-use.

The latter use is limited if you want to keep routes as the memory is limited, necessarily. You would have to download to computer if you wanted to keep a large number of routes.

To connect to a computer you have to have 2 leads, the Navigator to serial lead and then an adapter lead for serial to USB – not very helpful to have to buy 2.

There are Navigator to USB leads but only available from the States.

I like the data function most and used it for a long distance walk. As a result I knew how far each day’s itinerary actually was, different from the guidebook length, I discovered, on some days. You do need to change batteries fairly often if you do full days.

Costs less on Amazon, of course!

This is a great little product, does exactly how it says on the tin. I find a periood of 10 to 15 minutes works better than the recomended 1 minute on the quick start for the GPS to locate itself. If you are looking for an easy to use simple GPs that isn’ too expensive it is great. Battery life isn’t too bad either. so far mine has exceeded that that is stated in the manual.

I have just got into geocaching with my family and chose this model as an entry level beginner’s model. It only has a b/w screen and is not able to display mapping, but that should not be a problem until you become advanced in your requirements.

I have to say I did not find the instruction manual good at explaining how you go about setting specific waypoints, but then I realised you have to set a waypoint for where you are, and then change the coordinates manually. This is a bit of a drag if you have a lot to do, but takes no more than a minute each. The high tech way would be to upload the data directly from your computer but you need a special cable and that is not included.

It is a handy size and weight and easy to use – many more functions included than I need, and seems accurate to within two metres. Overall I am pleased with my purchase and would recommend it to others in a similar situation.
